Your ATS Score in 3 Steps
Upload Your Resume
Drop your PDF or DOCX. We extract the plain text — the same text an ATS gets — and measure how much of it a parser can place into sections.
Add a Job Description (Optional)
Skip it for an instant standalone ATS score. Paste one and the same check also reports your match rate and the exact keywords that posting asks for.
Get Your Score & Fix It

What We Check — and Why It Matters
Five published categories, fixed rules, every point itemised. AI structures your text; it never decides the number.
Impact
Bullets that carry a number, open with an action verb, and avoid "responsible for" and clichés. A recruiter reads results, not duties. Numbers are what survive a six-second skim.
Structure
How much of the text a parser can place into a section, the four essential sections, a complete contact block, dated roles in one format. A resume the software cannot read into fields is never found in a recruiter search.
Skills
Skills listed, skills also shown in use inside a bullet, and a list that is not padded. A skill in a list is a claim; a skill in a result is proof. Long lists read as keyword stuffing.
Writing
Bullet length, repeated words, active voice, spelling, duplicated lines. The human who opens the file after the software ranks it decides the callback.
Brevity
Word count for your career stage, bullets per role, summary length. Too thin looks junior; too long buries the strongest lines.

Common Questions
What is an ATS resume checker?
An ATS resume checker reads your resume the way applicant tracking software does — as plain text placed into sections — and scores what recruiters and parsers act on: structure, complete sections, quantified achievements, skills shown in use and, against a posting, the exact terms it asks for. ATS First gives you a 0–100 score from published rules and tells you exactly what to fix.
Do I need a job description?
No. Upload your resume alone and you get a standalone ATS score in under 30 seconds — good for checking whether it is generally ATS-safe. Paste a job description as well and the same check also scores you against that exact role: match rate, missing keywords ranked by impact, and a tailored cover letter.
How is the ATS score calculated?
The standalone score awards up to 100 points across Impact 30% · Structure 25% · Skills 20% · Writing 15% · Brevity 10%. With a job description, you are scored against that one posting: Keyword match 50% · Title match 10% · Experience 10% · Education 10% · Resume quality 20%. Every rule is fixed and published; AI is used only to structure the text, never to decide the number, so the same resume always gets the same score.
What score should I aim for?
A score of 80+ is strong and will pass most ATS filters. 60–79 means you will pass some systems but need improvements for competitive roles. Below 60 means your resume is likely being filtered out before a human sees it.
Do I need to create an account?
Your first analysis is free and instant. After that, creating a free account takes 30 seconds and gives you additional analyses, saves your history, and lets you track your score improvements over time.
Is my resume data kept private?
Your file is read into text to produce the score. A structured, de-identified copy — roles, bullets and skills, with your name, email, phone and links removed — is kept for up to 7 days so a re-check is instant and gives the same number, then deleted. A pasted job description is reduced to its keyword list, kept for 30 days. Resumes are never used to train models and never shared with employers or recruiters.
What file formats do you accept?
We accept PDF and DOCX files up to 10 MB — the same formats most ATS systems accept. Avoid image-based or scanned PDFs, as neither we nor real ATS can extract text from them.
How do I improve my ATS score fast?
Paste the job description — you'll see exactly which keywords you're missing. Add those keywords naturally to your Skills, Experience, and Summary. Then fix formatting: remove tables, text boxes, and headers/footers that block ATS parsing.

Short answer
What does the ATS resume checker actually check?
The ATS resume checker scores a resume from 0 to 100 with a fixed, published set of rules. On its own, the resume is scored on impact (30%), structure (25%), skills (20%), writing (15%) and brevity (10%); against a job description, on keyword match (50%), title (10%), experience (10%), education (10%) and resume quality (20%). Upload a PDF or DOCX, paste the posting, and the report lists the posting's terms you show in use, only list, or miss, plus every rule that lost points and the line that lost them. AI only reads the text into sections; it never decides the number, so the same resume always scores the same. The first check needs no account; a free account allows 3 checks a month. 80 or above is strong, 60 to 79 has named gaps, below 60 usually means a structural problem. A de-identified copy is kept 7 days for instant re-checks, then deleted.

Do Indian companies use ATS software?
Yes — TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture and most large Indian employers screen applications through applicant tracking systems such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors and Taleo, alongside India-built platforms like naukri RMS, Zoho Recruit, Keka and Darwinbox. Naukri’s recruiter search ranks profiles by keyword match the same way. The practical rule is identical everywhere: mirror the job description’s exact skill terms, keep a single-column parseable format, and skip photos and biodata-style personal details.
Applying to one specific posting? The resume vs job description match checker scores you against that role’s exact keywords. New to the metric?
