Common Questions

What is a resume match rate?

The share of what a job description asks for that your resume demonstrably has. On ATS First it is a 0–100 score: keyword match is half of it, and the posting’s job title, years of experience, education and the quality of the resume itself make up the rest. It is the closest thing to how a recruiter’s ATS search ranks you for that one role.

What match rate should I aim for?

80 or above is strong for that posting. 60–79 means you qualify but named keywords are missing — usually fixable in under an hour. Below 60 usually means either the role is a stretch or the resume was written for a different kind of job; check the missing-keyword list before deciding which.

Why does the same resume score differently against different jobs?

Because half the score is keyword match against that specific posting. A resume tuned for a data analyst posting will miss the terms a product analyst posting uses, even if the work overlaps. That is why you tailor per application rather than once.

Is “shown in use” different from “listed”?

Yes. A term that appears inside an experience bullet — where you did something with it — earns full credit. The same term sitting only in a skills list earns half. Recruiters read the bullets; the skills list is where keywords go to be ignored.

Should I paste the whole job description?

Yes, including the requirements and “nice to have” sections. The checker weighs required terms double, and it can only tell required from optional if the posting’s own wording is there. Trim boilerplate about the company if you like; it is not scored.

Does this work for Indian, Gulf and remote postings?

Is my resume and the job description kept private?

Your file is read into text to produce the score. A structured, de-identified copy — roles, bullets and skills, with your name, email, phone and links removed — is kept for up to 7 days so a re-check is instant and gives the same number, then deleted. A pasted job description is reduced to its keyword list, kept for 30 days. Resumes are never used to train models and never shared with employers or recruiters.
