How to use a cover letter example

Borrow the structure, not the sentences

Each example follows the same four moves: who you are and the result you are proudest of, the evidence, why this employer, and a clear ask. Keep that order and replace every line with your own facts. Recruiters read hundreds of letters, and copied phrasing is the fastest way to sound like all of them.

Match the example to the job, not just the title

A new-graduate letter leads with training and placements; an experienced one leads with outcomes. If your situation differs from the sample, open a neighbouring role in the same industry, or the extra versions some role pages carry (new graduate, entry-level, career change), and take the opening from the closer fit.

Use the keywords honestly

Every example lists the keywords hiring systems look for in that role. Use the ones that describe work you have actually done, in the sentence where you prove it. A keyword you cannot back up in an interview costs more than it earns.

Keep it to one page

Three or four short paragraphs, about 250 to 400 words. Name the company and the role in the first two lines, and end by asking for the conversation.
