Resume Format for Saudi Arabia: The Lines That Decide
A Saudi CV is the standard Gulf CV plus the lines Saudi recruiters filter on: Iqama status and profession for in-country candidates, project scale and certifications for technical roles, and a clear joining timeline from India. The general rules live in the Gulf guide; this page is what changes for the Kingdom.
The six Saudi-specific CV lines
- 1
Iqama status (in-country candidates)
"Iqama: Transferable, profession [X]" — the line Saudi recruiters check first. Outside the Kingdom: location + "employment visa required, documents attested and ready".
- 2
Profession match
Your Iqama profession and the role you apply for should align — mismatches complicate transfers. Word your CV title to the profession category where honest.
- 3
Nationality and availability
Standard in the personal block for Saudi applications, with a realistic joining timeline including notice and, from India, visa processing time.
- 4
Project scale for technical roles
Saudi hiring (especially giga-projects and Aramco-ecosystem work) reads project value, standards followed, and safety record — put numbers on all three.
- 5
Certifications that clear screens
NEBOSH/OSHA for site roles, Aramco approvals where held, SCE (Saudi Council of Engineers) registration for engineers — each is a named line, not buried in a list.
- 6
SAR package expectation, when asked
Total monthly package in SAR; know the basic/housing/transport convention so the offer’s split reads correctly.
How Saudi hiring actually works
Where expat demand concentrates
Engineering and construction (the Vision 2030 project pipeline), oil & gas and petrochemicals, healthcare (hospitals recruit continuously from India), logistics, hospitality for the new tourism sector, and increasingly IT. Riyadh has overtaken as the corporate center; Jeddah, Dammam/Khobar and the project sites carry the rest.
Saudization shapes the map
Quota categories reserve some functions for Saudi nationals — concentrated in administrative, HR and retail-facing roles. Expat CVs win in the technical, clinical and project categories; reading the posting’s requirements tells you which side a role is on.
India-based hiring drives are normal
Agencies and employers run interview drives in Indian metros for site, clinical and hospitality roles — often walk-in with documents. For these, a printed, conservative, two-page CV with certificates in a folder is still the working format.
Documents decide timelines
Attested degrees, PCC and medical clearance are the standard post-offer chain for employment visas. None of it belongs on the CV beyond "documents ready" — but having them ready is often the difference between joining in six weeks and losing the offer window.
Saudization categories, visa rules and document requirements evolve — treat this as common recent practice and verify current rules through official channels (HRSD/Qiwa, your employer, or their PRO) once an offer is in motion. The CV’s job is to make your status, profession and readiness unmistakable in ten seconds.
