Add each job as a row with a start month and end month, or mark it 'Currently working here' to use today's month automatically, and the tool adds up your total professional experience in years and months — plus a decimal figure like '3.4 years' for application forms that ask for experience as a single number.

Each row's duration counts both the start month and the end month in full, the same convention LinkedIn and Naukri use for tenure — so a role that runs January 2023 to March 2023 counts as 3 months, not 2. This matters because a strict day-based calculation would quietly shave time off roles that started and ended mid-month, and most recruiters and HR systems expect the LinkedIn-style count instead.

Every row is calculated independently and then summed, so the total simply adds up each row's duration — it doesn't detect or subtract overlapping dates. If you freelanced alongside a full-time role, or two jobs genuinely overlapped, the tool will add both durations in full, and you'll need to subtract the overlap from the total yourself.

Use the decimal-years figure for forms and ATS fields that want a single number — many job portals literally have a field labelled 'Total experience (years)' — and the years-and-months figure for your resume and cover letters, where '4 years 7 months' reads more naturally than '4.6 years'.
