Accountant Resignation Letter

Accountants are judged on what they leave reconciled. Time the last day after a month-end close if you can, and list the filings, reconciliations and system access you are handing over.

If an audit or a statutory filing falls in your notice period, say what you will complete.

Subject: Resignation — Manish Jain, Senior Accountant

[Date]

Dear Ms. Sinha,

I am writing to formally resign from my position as Senior Accountant at Everest Textiles. As per my notice period of 30 days, my last working day will be Friday, 6 November 2026, which I have chosen to fall after the October month-end close.

I have accepted a role with a larger finance team that offers a path towards a controller position. Before I leave I will complete the October close and bank reconciliations, file the GST returns due in the period, document the vendor-payment process, and hand over my Tally and banking access with a written record of the change.

During the notice period I will ensure a complete handover of my responsibilities and will document all ongoing work. Please let me know how you would like the transition planned, and kindly confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing.

Thank you for the support during my tenure. I wish the company and the team continued success.

Sincerely,
Manish Jain
Senior Accountant

Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.

What to get right

  • Choose a last day just after a close, not just before one.
  • List the statutory filings that fall in your notice and confirm you will complete them.
  • Get a written record of the access you hand back — banking and ERP credentials especially.

Generate yours — pre-filled for this situation

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
