Two Weeks Notice Resignation Letter
Two weeks is the standard notice in the United States and most at-will roles. The letter exists to do one thing: put your last working day on record. Everything else is courtesy.
Keep it to three short paragraphs — the resignation and date, a line of thanks, an offer to hand over. Save reasons for the conversation with your manager, not the letter HR will file.

Subject: Resignation — Jordan Lee, Marketing Coordinator
[Date] Dear Ms. Alvarez, Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from my position as Marketing Coordinator at Brightline Media. In line with the standard two weeks notice, my last working day will be Friday, 2 October 2026. I have valued my time here and the chance to work on the spring campaign launches. This was not an easy decision, and I want to make the next two weeks as useful to the team as possible. During the notice period I will ensure a complete handover of my responsibilities and will document all ongoing work. Please let me know how you would like the transition planned, and kindly confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing. Thank you for the support during my tenure. I wish the company and the team continued success. Sincerely, Jordan Lee Marketing Coordinator
Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.
What to get right
- Count the two weeks from the day you hand the letter in, and write the actual date — "two weeks from today" invites disputes.
- Deliver it in person or on a call first, then send the letter as the written record.
- Do not list grievances; the letter stays in your file long after the manager has moved on.
- Check your contract or handbook — some US employers require more than two weeks for senior roles.

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
