Resignation Letter With Two Months Notice

Sixty-day notice periods are standard at many IT services firms and for mid-level roles with client ownership. A longer notice earns a longer letter — not in reasons, but in the handover plan.

Offer phases: what you will document in the first month, who you will train in the second. It is the difference between a manager who fights the date and one who signs it.

Subject: Resignation — Arjun Nair, Project Lead

[Date]

Dear Mr. Krishnan,

I am writing to formally resign from my position as Project Lead at Cognizant. As per my notice period of 60 days, my last working day will be Monday, 16 November 2026.

I have accepted a role that moves me into product management, a direction I have been working towards for some time. Over the first month of notice I will complete the release documentation for the client portal and identify a successor for the daily client calls; in the second month I will shadow them into the role so that the client sees no change.

I will do everything I can to make the transition smooth — documenting my work, briefing whoever takes over, and remaining reachable for questions. Please confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing at your convenience.

Thank you for everything I have learnt here. I wish you and the team every success, and I hope our paths cross again.

With sincere gratitude,
Arjun Nair
Project Lead

Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.

What to get right

  • Propose a successor or a plan for one — it is the question your manager will ask first.
  • Long notices get negotiated; put the date you want in the letter and be ready to discuss an earlier release.
  • Keep client communication on the manager’s timeline, not yours.

Generate yours — pre-filled for this situation

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
