Resignation Letter Due to Relocation
Relocation is a reason nobody argues with, which makes it easy to write. The only decision is whether to ask about a transfer or remote arrangement before resigning outright — if you would take one, ask in the same letter.
Give the move date so the notice period discussion has an anchor.

Subject: Resignation Due to Relocation — Daniel Fernandes, Branch Manager
[Date] Dear Ms. Reddy, I am writing to formally resign from my position as Branch Manager at Coastal Finance, as I am relocating to Pune in early November for family reasons. As per my notice period of 30 days, my last working day will be Friday, 16 October 2026. I am relocating to another city, which unfortunately makes it difficult for me to continue in my current role. If a transfer to the Pune branch or a remote arrangement is possible, I would welcome that conversation; otherwise I will use the notice period to complete the quarterly audit and hand the branch over to the assistant manager. During the notice period I will ensure a complete handover of my responsibilities and will document all ongoing work. Please let me know how you would like the transition planned, and kindly confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing. Thank you for the support during my tenure. I wish the company and the team continued success. Sincerely, Daniel Fernandes Branch Manager
Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.
What to get right
- Name the city and the month; it explains the timing without further questions.
- If you want a transfer, ask for it before HR processes the resignation — a processed resignation is hard to reverse.
- Moving abroad? Ask for the experience letter and settlement documents before you leave the country.

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
