Resignation Letter for a Career Change

A career change is a reason that reflects well on you if it is stated plainly — one sentence about the direction, no critique of the current one.

Managers often become references for career changers precisely because the move is not about them. Keep that door open.

Subject: Resignation — Ananya Bose, Recruitment Consultant

[Date]

Dear Mr. Chatterjee,

I am writing to formally resign from my position as Recruitment Consultant at TalentBridge. As per my notice period of 30 days, my last working day will be Friday, 16 October 2026.

I have decided to move into UX research, a field I have been studying part-time for the last year, and I have accepted an entry-level role that starts in November. The interviewing and stakeholder skills I built here are the reason that move is possible, and I am grateful for the mentorship that made it so.

I will do everything I can to make the transition smooth — documenting my work, briefing whoever takes over, and remaining reachable for questions. Please confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing at your convenience.

Thank you for everything I have learnt here. I wish you and the team every success, and I hope our paths cross again.

With sincere gratitude,
Ananya Bose
Recruitment Consultant

Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.

What to get right

  • Name the new field, not the old one’s shortcomings.
  • Credit the transferable skills you built — it is true, and it makes the manager a natural reference.
  • Your resume needs a rewrite before the new field sees it; run it through the ATS checker against a posting in the new field.

Generate yours — pre-filled for this situation

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
