Resignation Letter for Your First Job
A first resignation feels bigger than it is. The rules are the same: tell your manager first, put the date in writing, offer a handover, and thank them. The one extra check for freshers is the training bond, if you signed one.
Your first manager is often your most important early reference; the letter should make that easy for them.

Subject: Resignation — Harsh Agarwal, Associate Engineer
[Date] Dear Mr. Nambiar, I am writing to formally resign from my position as Associate Engineer at Wipro. As per my notice period of 30 days, my last working day will be Friday, 16 October 2026. I have accepted an opportunity that aligns closely with my long-term career goals, and this was not an easy decision to make. As my first job after college, this role and your guidance gave me the foundation I am building on, and I am grateful for it. I have confirmed with HR that my training bond period ended in June, and I will complete the module I am assigned and hand over my test cases before I leave. I will do everything I can to make the transition smooth — documenting my work, briefing whoever takes over, and remaining reachable for questions. Please confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing at your convenience. Thank you for everything I have learnt here. I wish you and the team every success, and I hope our paths cross again. With sincere gratitude, Harsh Agarwal Associate Engineer
Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.
What to get right
- Check the bond clause and its end date before you resign; say in the letter that you have.
- Thank the manager for something specific — first managers remember their first mentees.
- Update your resume before you start interviewing; a fresher resume and a one-year-experience resume are different documents.

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
