Internship Resignation Letter

Interns leave early for good reasons: a full-time offer, exams, a better-aligned placement. The letter should be short, honest about the reason, and explicit about the certificate or letter you would like.

Ask what you can finish. Even a partial deliverable earns the recommendation.

Subject: Resignation from Internship — Aarav Shah, Marketing Intern

[Date]

Dear Ms. Pinto,

I am writing to let you know that I need to end my internship as Marketing Intern at Blue Ocean Media early. My last working day would be Friday, 2 October 2026, which gives two weeks’ notice.

I have received a full-time offer that requires me to join in October, and I did not want to leave the team short without warning. I will finish the social-media content calendar for October and hand the analytics dashboard over with notes before I go. I would be grateful for an internship completion letter for the period I have worked, if that is possible.

I will do everything I can to make the transition smooth — documenting my work, briefing whoever takes over, and remaining reachable for questions. Please confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing at your convenience.

Thank you for everything I have learnt here. I wish you and the team every success, and I hope our paths cross again.

With sincere gratitude,
Aarav Shah
Marketing Intern

Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.

What to get right

  • Ask for the completion letter or certificate by name; it is what the internship was for.
  • Offer to finish one concrete thing — the deliverable makes the reference.
  • If exams are the reason, give the dates; supervisors understand academic calendars.

Generate yours — pre-filled for this situation

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.

Questions about this letter

Yes. Internships rarely carry a contractual notice period; two weeks is courteous. Check whether a stipend agreement or college requirement ties a certificate to a minimum duration.
