Resignation Letter Due to Lack of Growth
Leaving for growth is legitimate and common; the trick is to describe the growth you are moving toward rather than the growth you were denied. "A role with broader scope" says everything a manager needs to hear.
Do not mention salary in the letter. If a counter-offer is coming, it will come regardless.

Subject: Resignation — Nikhil Rao, Senior Associate
[Date] Dear Mr. Agarwal, I am writing to formally resign from my position as Senior Associate at Summit Advisory. As per my notice period of 30 days, my last working day will be Friday, 16 October 2026. I have accepted a role with broader responsibility that fits where I want the next stage of my career to go. I am grateful for what I have learnt here over four years, and I will make sure the two engagements I am leading are handed over with complete documentation. During the notice period I will ensure a complete handover of my responsibilities and will document all ongoing work. Please let me know how you would like the transition planned, and kindly confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing. Thank you for the support during my tenure. I wish the company and the team continued success. Sincerely, Nikhil Rao Senior Associate
Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.
What to get right
- Frame it as toward, not away: "broader scope", "a leadership track", "a specialisation".
- Leave salary out; it belongs in the exit interview if anywhere.
- If you would stay for the right promotion, have that conversation before you resign, not after.

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
