Resignation Letter Due to a Toxic Work Environment
The resignation letter is the wrong document for the complaint. It will be read by the people you are complaining about, and it will follow you in reference checks. Keep the letter neutral and put the facts, if you want them on record, in a separate written grievance or the exit interview.
The sample below says nothing about the environment. That restraint is the point.

Subject: Resignation — Divya Krishnan, Content Writer
[Date] Dear Ms. Thomas, I am writing to formally resign from my position as Content Writer at Northstar Digital. As per my notice period of 30 days, my last working day will be Friday, 16 October 2026. I have decided to move on to a role that better fits the direction I want my work to take. I will complete the articles currently in my queue and leave the editorial calendar and style notes in order for the next writer. During the notice period I will ensure a complete handover of my responsibilities and will document all ongoing work. Please let me know how you would like the transition planned, and kindly confirm my last working day and the relieving formalities in writing. Thank you for the support during my tenure. I wish the company and the team continued success. Sincerely, Divya Krishnan Content Writer
Names, companies and dates are illustrative. Replace the bracketed date with the day you send it.
What to get right
- Write the neutral letter first; write the honest one only if you intend to file it as a formal grievance with HR, dated and factual.
- If harassment or safety is involved, document incidents with dates before you resign — your legal position is stronger while employed.
- Ask for the relieving letter and settlement in writing; difficult workplaces are the ones that delay them.

Notice period, reason and tone are set to match the example above. Change anything; the last working day recalculates.
